Children/Youth Curriculum

  • Nursery: Birth - two years old
  • Toddler: Two - three years old
  • Kindergarten: Four years - kindergarten
  • Primary: Grades 1 and 2
  • Middler: Grades 3 and 4
  • Junior: Grades 5 and 6
  • Junior High: Grades 7 and 8
  • Senior High: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12

Cokesbury's Rock Solid-Building a Heart of Faith curriculum will help young children through 6th grade along their faith journeys.  At each age level on every Sunday the children will be invited to a faith experience. It is during this time that they can come to a better understanding of God and what God calls them to do and be. They come to know Jesus as the Son of God and take his messages to heart. They seek where the Bible speaks to them today. Activities, crafts, stories, and games will contribute to this faith experience.

In the Junior High Class, students will be talking about the Bible and God and themselves, their beliefs, their questions, their lives.  They will be talking about the things that matter to them.  Using Youth Specialties’ Middle School Talk Sheets, teens will participate in creative discussions that focus on relevant, real-life topics: Media Influences — TV, Music, Advertising, Substance Abuse and Peer Pressure, Parents, Self-Image and Physical Appearance, Jesus, Friendships, Prayer and Worship, Trusting God and Dealing with Doubt.

Senior High youth will be studying a new One Year Bible Track for Teens by Christianity Today.  This compilation includes titles such as Crash Course of the Bible, James:  Living the Christian Life 24/7, Acts: How to Have an Eternal Impact, and Preparing for Life After High School.

Adult Curriculum

The Family of God
Meeting in Pastor Tim’s Office (September 11-October 23 only)
Are you interested in an introduction to the North Hills Community Baptist Church and a better understanding of who we are as Baptists?  We’ll be using two resources, “The Family of God” by Douglas Beyer and “The Baptist Identity” by Walter Shurden.  There are some important principles that have historically defined Baptists, and we’ll focus on these.  Topics specific to NHCBC will also be covered such as, the membership process, ways to get involved in the life of the church and missions and ministries of our church.

I Corinthians
Meeting in the Parlor
Set amid the intensely modern and cosmopolitan world of Corinth, where philosophy and mystery abound, Paul’s first letter to that church speaks clearly to us still today. So many foundational scripture passages, familiar to most by reference to chapter and verse alone, are found in this first letter to the Corinthians:  “the Love Chapter,” “the body is a temple,” “the body requires a variety of members,” and the words of institution for the Lord’s Supper — may immediately spring to mind.  Join us for this in-depth study as Paul instructs this troublesome congregation on how to “walk the talk” as well as tackling hot button topics that remain with the church today.

Crazy Love
Meeting in the room adjacent to Fellowship Hall
God is love. Crazy, relentless, all-powerful love.  Have you ever wondered if we’re missing it? It’s crazy, if you think about it.  The God of the universe—the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor—loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response?  We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo?  Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself.  Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts—it’s falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as author Francis Chan describes it, you will never be the same.
